Looking for Sean McLachlan? He mostly hangs out on the Civil War Horror blog these days, but feel free to nose around this blog for some fun older posts!

The Fall of a Luddite

Well, it had to happen. I've been a proud technophobe for years. Besides a laptop and DSL, I have had no techie toys and didn't want any. Then, in the past two months, my wife convinced me to get a mobile, and then bought me an iPod Nano. If that wasn't enough, friend, fellow writer, and now fellow blogger Abha Malpani convinced me to start a blog.

So now that I have this blog, what do I intend to do with it? Well, tell you what I think, of course! I have been an avid traveler since I was in my teens, and have been to more than twenty countries on every continent except Australia and Antarctica. But what I've noticed, as I push on towards forty, is that more and more of my fellow travelers are falling by the wayside, giving up on their true passion for more mundane things such as television. (I still don't have one of those; my wife isn't going to win that battle) I've also noticed that younger travelers are asking me for advice, or for stories about what it was like to trek in Nepal before there were internet cafes along the trails. So, I intend to use this blog to talk about one of my favorite things in the world--independent travel. Oh, and books, real ale, and anything else I feel like, but mostly independent travel.

A bit about me, beyond what you can see in the upper righthand corner. I am a freelance writer dividing my time between Madrid, Spain, and Missouri, USA. I've written various books, including Moon Handbooks London. As I write this I'm up in London working on some magazine articles. More about that in the next post.

Does anyone ever read the first post of a new blog?
